West Waterford councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy has said that it is unacceptable that a housing estate in Cappoquin is still “being left in complete darkness.”
Cúil na Circe in Cappoquin is raised regularly at the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council, with the roads director saying the issue is the need to upgrade the underground network.
Outages in the estate have defied all attempts at repair, but Cllr Mulachy said today that the issue has been ongoing for years.
“This situation has been ongoing since before I was elected,” said Cllr Mulcahy.
“It has been raised time and time again, yet absolutely nothing has been done.
"It’s unacceptable that residents are still being left in complete darkness.”
“People deserve to feel safe in their own community. The lack of lighting is adding to people’s fear and anxiety. It’s simply not good enough.
"It’s about time those responsible for public lighting get this sorted once and for all.”
“This issue needs to be treated as an immediate priority. Residents have waited long enough for action,” said Cllr Mulcahy.
