A Waterford based business that specialises in hardy ferns won a silver medal at this year's Bloom Festival in Dublin.
Shady Plants fern nursery is based in the Clashmore area of County Waterford.
Located in the beautiful surroundings of the Blackwater Valley between Dungarvan, in Waterford, and Youghal, in Co Cork, the business is a family owned enterprise.
The business received the medal in the Plant Nursery category and the accolade provided a ringing endorsement of the high quality and professional service offered by Shady Plants.
The business began in 2007 and initially specialised in Ferns before expanding to grow other shade loving plants, in particular Hostas.
Always with an eye on expanding the offering to its clients the business now grows and offers insectivorous plants to its customers.
An intrinsic part of the ethos at Shady Plants is a focus on being environmentally friendly and with that in mind organic methods of growing are always used.
The business also uses organic, peat-free compost for most of its plants and according to its website work is under way on developing peat-free mixes for insectivorous plants.
