The members of one active retirement group in County Waterford are nothing if not resourceful and innovative in the way they think,

The Tay and Mahon Valley ARA is one of the busiest and active in the county but the creativity of its members was highlighted in an exemplary way last year by members, Anne Power and Jack Collins, who used walking aids to prepare for their upcoming golf season.

The most recent session of the group also invoked fond memories of bygone times, as highlighted by one member who recalled the preparations that took place for first confession in the very early 1960s.

"Preparing for first confession, thought the hand rest was for kneeling on and fell out of the confession box when I tried it," he said.

"Sr Angela our wonderful teacher with music and song, I would imagine was not to impressed with me," he added.

The members are also looking forward to a birthday celebration coming up soon when a little celebration will take place to mark the 93rd birthday of one of the organisation's most senior members.

"The one item our members enjoy most is the chat," said the one of those behind the group.

"Rain, rain and more rain daily since Christmas, the sun should be shining soon," he said, expressing the hope of perhaps everyone in the country.

The group's next gathering will be on Monday, February 23, in Barron Hall from 2pm to 4pm.
