Waterford Animal Rescue says they are rehoming some of the cats rescued from a house fire last week.

They said in a post on social media that the young kittens and their mother unfortunately did not survive.

But there was a happier ending for another rescued cat.

“Following on from the house fire last week, we are only now starting to rehome the surviving cats. Unfortunately, all of the young kittens didn't make it despite of the best efforts of the vets.

“However, one of the surviving cats did give birth to two lovely kittens,” wrote the rescue.

The cats were rescued from a house fire on Tuesday, September 30.

Waterford Animal Rescue said they received a call from gardaí to assist.

Four young adult cats and four kittens were taken to Suirside Veterinary Clinic with smoke inhalation.

The mother and one of the kittens died shortly afterwards, but it was hoped the rest could be saved.

“Thank you to Suirside Veterinary Clinic for prioritising their treatment when we arrived,” wrote the rescue.

Waterford Animal Welfare, based on The Quay, provides emergency response, care and advice across Munster and South Leinster, 24/7 365 days a year.
