Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris visited St Ursula’s Primary School on Friday, February 13, unveiling two new special classes designed for children with additional needs.
The Tánaiste was joined by Waterford junior ministers Mary Butler and John Cummins, as well as Bishop of Waterford and Lismore Alphonsus Cullinan.
At the end of 2025, there were approximately 18,000 children awaiting an Assessment of Need to help secure their place in a special classroom.
In the HSE Dublin and South East region, 2,500 children were overdue an Assessment of Need (legislation requires an AON to be completed within six months of application).
