Sinn Féin's Catherine Burke grabbed the last seat in the Portlaw/Kilmacthomas LEA.

She will form the new council alongside Liam Brazil (FG), Seanie Power (FG), John O'Leary (FF) and Declan Clune (Ind).

Reacting to the result, Cllr Burke said,  “I’m ecstatic and delighted. It’s a huge lift to have a woman elected to the Comeragh (Portlaw/Kilmacthomas) council, so it’s just fantastic.”

“I’ve been a member of Sinn Féin for six years and having a left leaning party represented in the Comeragh is so vital. The issues that are important to me are the bread and butter issues, housing, maintenance, roads, transport, and there’s so much work to be done in our area and I’m really looking forward to get started.

She added, “I think people genuinely want to see women elected to the council. I’m a working mother so it will be a balancing act and I’m up for the challenge.”
