WATCH: Faulty traffic lights in Ferrybank cause major disruptions in recent weeks

In recent weeks, faulty traffic lights in Ferrybank have been impacting traffic flow with huge vehicle tailbacks observed.

As part current phase of North Quays traffic management plan, there has been traffic lights erected near Abbey Road. The lights would remain red for a prolonged period of time, with drivers resorting to driving through the red light in order to maintain a steady flow of traffic.

A video [see below] courtesy of The Ferrybank Community Newsletter from 9.30pm Sunday July 28, shows the extent of the disruption:

Chair of Ferrybank Community Development Residents’ Group, John Hayes said: “The traffic coming down from the church is all held up and the light will stay indefinitely on red so it’s causing a lot of hassle. Drivers obviously are getting very impatient and annoyed at the situation.

He added that such disruptions will have a "serious impact on residents and the businesses over on Abbey Road and by Mr. Price etc."

John said: “The traffic lights were a serious holdup for drivers and the issue lasted weeks. As far as I'm aware, they are now working much better. I haven't heard any complaints since last weekend.”

“Needless to say, the heavy goods vehicles public transport is really congested out at the Peafield Road by Slieverue as long as the diversion is in place" he added.
