Councillor Joe O’Riordan has requested the council install a tap and shower at Abbeyside Strand to stop people washing in the local graveyard.
He said at the October sitting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council that the beach is busy with swimmers all year round, but particularly in the summer months.
And that there had been a somewhat unusaul alternative up until this summer.
“In the summer, the tap in the church yard seems to be turned off because the local clergy don’t want people washing their feet inside in the graveyard, said Cllr O’Riordan.
Senior Executive Engineer for Dungarvan Josephine McGrath did not comment on the local misstep but did say she would look into it.
“It’s not a location that has been brought up before, but we will review it and the location and see what is actually feasible,” said Ms McGrath.
