This year's Waterford Viking Marathon raised over €13,000 for the RNLI.

The event took place over the weekend of June 21 and 22, and the organisers expressed delight recently in being able to present a cheque for €13,343.30 to the RNLI lifeboat stations in Tramore, Helvick Head and Dunmore East.

This year’s marathon was the biggest in the event’s history, welcoming over 4,000 participants, aged 6 to 80, across two days of running.

With races for children and adults, the event once again showcased its inclusive spirit and its unique ability to bring the community together in the name of health, fitness, and fun.

Speaking about the partnership, organisers expressed their pride and gratitude: “We are so proud to have partnered with the RNLI this year and so appreciative of their incredible help and support both in the lead-up and during the event. Their dedication and presence were invaluable in making this year’s marathon such a success.”

In the run-up to race weekend, the RNLI also worked closely with event sponsors, delivering in-house water safety training. This initiative not only spread the crucial water safety message but also provided education and awareness just in time for the busy summer months.

Connie Kiersey, RNLI Community Manager, said: “We are so delighted to be partnered with the Waterford Viking Marathon. The money raised will cover the cost of two suits for each of our RNLI stations in Waterford, which is a huge help. We are thrilled to continue this partnership and look forward to being part of the event again in 2026.”

The funds raised came from donations and participant fundraising, underlining the generosity of the local and international running community.

Looking ahead, registration has now officially opened for the Waterford Viking Marathon 2026, which will take place on June 20 and 21, 2026. Organisers promise that next year’s event will be even bigger and better, building on the incredible momentum and success of 2025.
