Some schools in Waterford have said they will remain closed because of current weather conditions

Some schools around County Waterford have said they will remain closed tomorrow, Monday, January 6, as a result of the current cold snap that's gripping the country.

While it's likely most students and pupils across the county will welcome the news with glee, the decisions have been made with the best interests of everyone's health and safety at heart.

CBS Dungarvan issued a notice stating its intention to remain closed "to ensure the safety" of students and staff. However, the school plans to reopen on Tuesday, weather permitting.

Abbey Community College, in Ferrybank, also issued a notice of its intention to remain closed on Monday in the interest of health and safety of everyone and also in line with national guidelines from the Department of Education.

CITY SCHOOLS CLOSED

Mount Sion Primary School will remain closed tomorrow (Monday). In a statement online, Principal Catherine Burke said: "Due to current weather conditions and in the interest of the health and safety of our school community, we will remain closed tomorrow, Monday, 6th January. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep you informed of any further updates as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any immediate concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us."

Presentation Primary School in Waterford city will also remain closed for students tomorrow amid the current weather conditions.
