Uisce Eireann voice concern over Active Travel plans

Uisce Eireann has made a submission relating to Waterford Council’s plans to transform the neighbourhoods of Larchville, Lisduggan and Lismore Park.

The project aims to encourage more people to walk or cycle through the use of new walking and cycling routes.

The proposed works include upgrades to existing walking and cycling links, the creation of new walking and cycling links, and a series of road junction upgrades.

The project forms part of a nationally selected cohort of Active Travel schemes.

The development is currently at public consultation stage.

A submission made by Uisce Eireann outlines that the water body has no objection in principle to the proposal, however their records indicate the presence of water services infrastructure which may be impacted by the development.

Concerns arise over the potential for new infrastructure to be built atop of existing Uisce Eireann infrastructure, which Uisce Eireann does not permit.

“Uisce Éireann requests that the integrity of the infrastructure shall be protected during the works and the Council's water service's engineer consulted prior to and during construction” the submission states.

The public consultation will close on September 2.
