Mayor of Waterford City and County, Seamus Ryan, has paid tribute to Hugh Wallace on his passing.
The 68-year-old Home of the Year star passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday night, and his death was announced by his husband, Martin Corbett on Instagram.
Mr Wallace was the architect involved in North Quays development in Waterford City.
“On behalf of Waterford City and County Council, I would like to offer condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Hugh Wallace on his sudden passing.
“Hugh was a familiar figure to many, as a television presenter and a judge of RTÉ’s Home of the Year.
"However, it was as director and co-founder of architecture firm, Douglas Wallace Consultants, that Hugh became an even more familiar figure to us here in Waterford.
“Hugh’s firm, on behalf of Harcourt Developments, planned and designed the North Quays Strategic Development Zone. His vision, dynamism and creativity shone through in the plans for the North Quays to reimagine the city.
“To Hugh’s husband, Martin Corbett, his family, friends and colleagues at Douglas Wallace Consultants I extend my deepest sympathies.'
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam,” said Mayor Ryan.
Earlier this year, Mr Wallace told the Waterford News and Star that he loved working on the North Quays project and said working with the council was "inspirational."
"It’s very rare as an architect that you get the opportunity to work on such a huge scheme. Working with Harcourt Developments has been really good because they want this to work and they have the experience of doing it,” said Mr Wallace.

Former Waterford TD and social advocate Matt Shanahan paid tribute to the late architect on social media.
“Very sad news, the sudden passing of Hugh Wallace. He was very supportive and positive about Waterford's North Quays redevelopment to energise imprint and future vision and he was deeply enthusiastic about the future development of our iconic city.
"Condolences to his husband Martin, his extended family and countless colleagues and friends.
"He touched many homes and lives so positively. RIP," said Mr Shanahan.
