It was a case of a long wait worth it for some of the candidates in the Tramore-Waterford City West LEA over the weekend as it was the last area to have its political representatives selected.

The Returning Officer, Paul Johnston formally announced the election for the ward closed at 10.22pm, following which he also formally concluded the Waterford local election.

Ironically, the first candidate to win a seat, Fine Gael's Cllr Lola O'Sullivan did so on the first count, with a surplus of 137 votes. The next candidate over the line was Independent Councillor Joe Kelly, on Count 7, while the remaining four seats were filled on Count 12.

However, the wait was worth it for Cllrs Joe Conway (Ind), Joe Kelly (Ind), Eamon Quinlan (FF) and Independent candidate, Blaise Hannigan.
