Tourist accommodation facility planned for rural west Waterford

The proposed site at Villierstown.

The development of a site in Villierstown to provide for a new tourist accommodation facility is currently in the works.

The development is being planned following communication from local groups who requested that additional tourist services be provided in the area.

In March 2023, Waterford City and County Council were contacted by members of the Villierstown Education & Cultural Project CLG team, who operate a successful boat house/club at Villierstown Quay with over 400 members.

The group outlined that they have "outgrown" their current site and that it is also not possible to expand due to its proximity to the ‘Blackwater Special Area of Conservation’.

The group identified a site adjacent to theirs, which may be suitable for development, and queried if Waterford Council would consider its acquisition.

Planned at this site is a total of three two-bed cabins and three motorhome overnight parking spaces.

A service building is also planned, consisting of sanitary facilities, a kitchen and multipurpose community space.

A pre-public consultation/ meeting took place on June 12 in the Boathouse in Villierstown. It was well attended and support for the project was described as "very positive".

The proposed development is currently open for public consultation, which can be accessed until August 19 via consult.waterfordcouncil.ie
