The first details for this year’s Winterval have been unveiled, with the much loved festival set to return to Waterford this winter from November 21 until December 23.
The full programme of festival events will be unveiled in mid-October, however this week festival organisers gave a sneak peak of what's to come.
This year, Winterval weekends will be running every Thursday to Sunday, giving visitors extra opportunities to soak up the festive fun.
One of the shining highlights of Winterval, Santa’s Grotto, returns to Waterford’s historic underground vaults for 2025, and tickets are already available.
From the moment little visitors arrive, they are greeted by cheerful elves, who guide them through a wonderland filled with festive surprises, sparkling decorations, and the scent of cinnamon and pine.
Inside the grotto, children can meet Santa himself, share their Christmas wishes, and pose for photos.
The experience also includes a special play area designed to delight all senses.
Tickets for Santa’s Grotto can be purchased online at www.winterval.ie
Families are encouraged to book early, as tickets often sell out quickly.
The heart of the city will once again come alive this winter with lights and festive market stalls, where visitors can wander through the famous Winterval Christmas Market.
Local craftspeople, artisan food producers, and gift makers will once again return.
Local restaurants, cafes, and bars will join in the festivities, offering Winterval-themed menus and cosy spots to relax.
Commenting further on this year's offerings, Festival Director Trevor Darmody said, “As Winterval celebrates its 13th year, we are thrilled to unveil the first announcements for Winterval 2025, an event that has firmly established itself as Ireland’s most beloved Christmas festival.
"With extended weekends and an even wider array of magical experiences, we look forward to welcoming families to explore the festive attractions, enjoy the illuminations, and create lasting memories in the heart of Waterford, a city like no other."
