In a post on social media, Councillor Kate O’Mahoney said she was delighted that €152,000 has been allocated to the operation and maintenance of public toilets across the county.
“The situation was more than inconvenient – it was embarrassing. The absence of basic bathroom facilities impacts everyone, but especially people with disabilities, those with medical needs, pregnant women, older people and families with young children.
“No one should feel uncomfortable or restricted when enjoying their own community, especially during the off-season when our towns and beaches are still being used and enjoyed daily,” said Cllr O’Mahoney.
The allocation includes new toilets for Dungarvan as well as year-round opening in Dungarvan, Ardmore and Clonea.
Access to public toilets, particularly in Clonea, is regularly raised by councillors at monthly Dungarvan-Lismore District Council Meetings.
“This funding means Dungarvan town and Clonea will become more inclusive for both locals and visitors. It will support our economy, make our town and beach more accessible year-round, and ensure our public spaces are designed for everyone,” said Cllr O’Mahoney.
