The sixth annual Summer Solstice celebration event hosted by the Friends of the River Suir group is taking place later this month at William Vincent Wallace Plaza on Waterford’s Quays.

The free, family-friendly community event celebrates the River Suir and the many organisations, clubs, and volunteers who engage with, protect, and enjoy it.

The annual gathering has become a popular fixture on Waterford's summer calendar, bringing together people of all ages to mark the longest days of the year.

Visitors can enjoy an evening of live music, community displays, and opportunities to meet local groups involved in river recreation, conservation, heritage, education, and environmental stewardship.

This year’s celebration includes public workshops, such as splicing and knot-tying demos for sailing and fishing, craft displays highlighting maritime traditions, river conservation and local wildlife exhibits.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to meet Local River Heroes, as the event welcomes volunteers from essential local groups such as Waterford City River Rescue, Re-A-Suir, and more.

"The Summer Solstice Celebration is about bringing people together to appreciate the River Suir and to recognise the many organisations and individuals who help care for and enjoy our river," said a spokesperson for Friends of the River Suir.

"As we celebrate our sixth year, we look forward to welcoming families, friends, and visitors for an enjoyable evening of music, community spirit, and river heritage."
