More than 200 property professionals from across Ireland and overseas gathered in Waterford on Wednesday, June 11, for the inaugural Real Estate Agency Summit, a landmark event focused on the future of estate agency, industry innovation and the evolving Irish property market.

The summit brought together estate agents, auctioneers, property professionals, industry leaders and technology providers for a day of discussion and learning, making it one of the most significant new events to emerge for the Irish property sector in recent years.

A major highlight of the event was the first Irish speaking appearance by internationally renowned real estate expert Tom Panos, one of the most influential figures in global estate agency.

Addressing delegates, Mr Panos shared insights into changing market conditions and the skills estate agents will need to remain competitive in the years ahead.

"What the Irish market has had over the past number of years is not a normal market," he said.

"Covid created a property boom, but that boom will come to an end," he added, before commenting: "Over the next three years, rising interest rates, inflation and global conflict will create headwinds for the property sector."

Mr Panos also stressed the importance of strong client relationships and business development within the profession.

"Irish estate agents need to become better at vendor management and far more consistent at prospecting if they are going to thrive in the next phase of the market cycle," he said.

Throughout the day, delegates heard from leading industry experts on topics such as leadership, sales performance, buyer representation, business growth, technology adoption and changing consumer expectations.

A spokesperson for the oranisers said the summit came at an important time for the Irish property market as the industry continues to navigate supply constraints, affordability challenges and shifting economic conditions, while demand for housing remains strong across much of the country.

A panel discussion examining the outlook for the Irish property market also took place during the event, with speakers discussing current market trends, future challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

Speaking at the event, summit organiser Regina Mangan said the overwhelming response to the inaugural summit demonstrated the appetite within the industry for collaboration, learning and forward-thinking discussion.

"The success of today's inaugural Real Estate Agency Summit has exceeded all expectations," she said.

"To welcome more than 200 delegates from across Ireland and overseas to Waterford for our first event is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the strength and ambition of the property profession," she added.

She said the aim of the event was to create a platform where estate agents and property professionals could get together to learn from some of the industry's leading voices, share experiences and prepare for the future.

"The engagement throughout the day has been exceptional, and there is a real sense of optimism about the opportunities that lie ahead for those willing to adapt and evolve," she said.
