Shock and sadness at death of popular local farmer

There is widespread shock and sadness throughout South Kilkenny and Waterford following the death on Sunday, of James Doherty.
Mr Doherty, from Ballyrobin, Ferrybank, Kilkenny/Ferrybank, Waterford, died following a farm accident.
The extremely high regard in which he was held was highlighted in the messages of condolence posted on rip.ie by those who knew him.
Offering sympathies to Mr Doherty's family, one person noted: "He was a gentleman, thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time."
Another person wrote: "James would always do you a good turn. Rest in peace, my friend."
The Gardaí confirmed to Waterford News & Star they are investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr Doherty's passing, which they described as a tragic accident.
In a statement to the Waterford News & Star, a spokesperson for the gardaí said: “Gardaí attended the scene following a report of the discovery of the body of a male (aged in his 50’s) at a premises in Ballyrobin, Ferrybank, Co. Waterford on Sunday, May 24th."
Mr Doherty was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident and the Garda spokesperson said the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) had been notified.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner," said the spokesperson.
"This appears to be a tragic incident and no foul play is suspected at this time. It is believed to be a workplace incident," she added.
Mr Doherty, who was predeceased by his parents, Jimmy and May, is survived by his partner Lorna, brothers John, Eamonn and Pat, sisters Bridget, Eileen, Mairead and Maria, uncle Willie Doherty, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
