This afternoon, Cllr Seanie Power was voted Cathaoirleach of the Comeragh Municipal District. 

The Fine Gael man will take over from outgoing Cathaoirleach Cllr John O'Leary (FF).

Cllr O'Leary will continue to serve as Leas-Cathaoirleach for the coming year.

During today's AGM held in the Dungarvan Civic Offices, Cllr Power was proposed to take on the role of Cathaoirleach by party colleague Cllr Liam Brazil. He was seconded by Cllr O'Leary.

Cllr Brazil described Power as "a good country man who knows his stuff and is very good to the rural people living in our district.

"It is so important to have a good individual sitting there guiding us along the way, and he will look after our rural towns, villages and people" Brazil added.

Cllr O'Leary described Cllr Power as an "outstanding public representative and a hard worker who is always prepared to share his knowledge and expertise with us."

2026 marks Seanie Power's twelfth year on the Council. 

"The longer you are a councillor, the busier you get" he said during today's meeting.

"It's seven days a week for us and I never switch of my phone. People can call me anytime, any day of the week."

He thanked the Council's executive staff and his councillor colleagues, John O'Leary, Liam Brazil, Catherine Burke and Declan Clune.

He also expressed thanks to his wife of 37-years, Nora. 

"If you don't have the support of your family you can't do anything." he said.
