Ferrybank Shopping Centre

The seemingly infinite saga of Ferrybank Shopping Centre is impacting the local area plan.

In March 2023, it was revealed that Dunnes were the owners of the empty site, which was built in 2008.

At the March meeting of Piltown Municipal District, Acting Director of Services for Kilkenny County Council, Ian Gardner spoke about the latest updates regarding the dormant centre. He said: "There's a meeting between Kilkenny County Council and Dunne's Stores that hasn't yet taken place, but is expected to happen in the coming weeks."

Cathaoirleach, Cllr Ger Frisby asked if the parties had been furnished with the Local Area Plan and retail strategy for the area. Cllr Frisby said: "Hopefully the meeting will concentrate on those topics."

Councillor Fidelis Doherty raised the point of the ongoing development and the local area plan and the impasse over the centre. Mr Gardner responded: "It's in the draft stage at the moment and I don't think anything can be finalised until the meeting with Dunne's."
