Rice Bridge to lift today in Waterford

Edmund Rice Bridge in Waterford

 Motorists are advised to take notice that Edmund Rice Bridge in Waterford City will lift on Wednesday, May 8.

Waterford City and County Council issued a notice on the lift and said it will occur at 1.30pm.

Motorists and those travelling into and out of the city can expect some traffic delays as a result and should plan their journey accordingly.

The opening span of the bridge is around 40metres in length and weighs around 310 tonnes. The first stage of construction of the bridge began in August, 1982, with two lanes constructed beside Redmond Bridge, which preceded it. 

The first phase of Edmund Rice Bridge opened in October 1984.
