Revolut ignore solicitor's requests in alleged money laundering case
Waterford Courthouse.
A personal data request submitted to Revolut by a defence solicitor has “rather extraordinarily” been ignored by the digital banking platform.
The case involves Waterford man Patrick Lynch, of Parkswood, Passage East.
Lynch is accused of money laundering.
His defence solicitor appeared in court last week to explain the case to Judge Kevin Staunton. He said he submitted a data request to Revolut in order to obtain financial information from them to progress the case.
Revolut ignored this request.
He further informed Revolut that if they do not reply, a complaint would be sent to the Data Protection Commission.
The solicitor informed Judge Kevin Staunton that the information he is seeking from Revolut is essential to advise and progress the case. He said he is at a loss that a financial service provider as big as Revolut could ignore a personal data request.
Judge Kevin Staunton agreed, saying it is “extraordinary” that a reply has not been received yet.
