Rescue 117 helicopter recovers person who fell from ferry

The Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 117, out of Waterford Airport located and recovered a person earlier today, Sunday, September 9, who fell from a ferry.
A spokesperson for the Coast Guard said the person had fallen overboard from the Shannon Killimer ferry earlier today.
'Shortly after 09.20, MRSC Valentia received a report that a person had fallen overboard from the ferry,' said the spokesperson in the statement.
'An extensive search and rescue mission was initiated immediately, involving a fleet of local vessels, Ballybunion and Kilkee Coast Guard units and Kilrush and Fenit RNLI," he added.
The casualty was located and recovered by the Coast Guard helicopter and transferred into the care of the HSE at Limerick University Hospital.
