Mayor of Waterford City & County Cllr Seamus Ryan, gathered with committee members and members of the public at a wreath laying and plaque unveiling at the Spanish Civil War Memorial in Waterford city.

The event was held in remembrance of the Waterford men who fought Franco's forces during the Spanish Civil War. In 1936, the men of the Waterford International Brigade took up arms to fight for democracy in the Spanish Civil War.
On Friday last, the men were celebrated for their bravery with the 'Adelante' ceremony in Waterford City, which included the laying of a wreath at Cathedral Square to mark the 90th anniversary of the war.
Eoin Ronayne also gave a talk in the Garden Room of the Medieval Museum about the men's journey and the lessons that can be learned from their story.
Mayor of Waterford Seamus Ryan also unveiled a commemorative plaque on Colbeck Street.
The series of events concluded at Jordan's bar with an evening of songs, poetry and spoken word.
