Religious statues stolen in Waterford

The statue that has been stolen.

It seems not everyone is getting into the Christmas spirit in Waterford.

There have been reports that several religious statues have been stolen from people's gardens in the city.

A statue of Jesus was stolen from John's Park. The statue is about 2-3 ft in height and has been in the same place for at least forty years. It was recently restored.

According to WLR FM, the statue had stood outside the home for more than 40 years and held deep sentimental value for the family.

It had originally belonged to the homeowner’s grandparents, the late Peggy and Denis Mullane, both of whom are now deceased. The family member had recently restored the statue, making its disappearance particularly distressing.

Meanwhile, a statue of Venus was stolen from a garden in Lismore Park in the same week.

There has been no indication that these incidents are related.
