The largest ever wind turbine blades to enter Ireland were transported from the Port of Waterford last week.
The 80 metre blades were recently shipped from Turkey, before being skillfully transported to the Cushaling Wind Farm Project in County Offaly last Wednesday. The farm consists of nine turbines total, each at a height of 185 metres.
Significant road closures were in place. Between 8pm and midnight on Wednesday, the N25 eastbound carriageway from Grannagh Junction to the Luffany Roundabout was temporarily shut.
Port of Waterford CEO David Sinnott said: “Port of Waterford was chosen as it is the only port in Ireland capable of handling these long components. While the Port of Waterford handed similar cargo in 2023 this is the first time that components of this scale were handled through an Irish port."
