Questions asked over services in 'fast-growing' Ferrybank area of Waterford and south Kilkenny

As of the 2022 Census, Ferrybank, which encompasses an area spanning both the Waterford and Kilkenny county boundaries, had a population of 5,722.
The population has been steadily increasing over the past three years and with the volume of housing developments currently approved by Kilkenny County Council, the area is on track for significant population growth over the next decade.
Some locals are of the opinion that if, or when, the long-awaited Ferrybank Shopping Centre finally opens, Ferrybank could well emerge as "a town in its own right".
However, residents say that raised another important question.
"Are the necessary services in place to support this growth?" asked one resident.
"At present, there is concern that the area may lack key amenities such as a public bar or restaurant, a dedicated community centre and adequate sports facilities beyond existing GAA and soccer provisions," he added.
The resident went on to comment: "Kilkenny County Council must ensure these services and infrastructure are delivered in tandem with residential development, not after the fact."
