Proceeds of last year's mayor's ball goes to sensory hub in Waterford

The official opening of the new Parent and Child Sensory Hub took place in City Square Shopping Centre, Waterford, this week. The initiative, developed in collaboration with Autism Friendly Waterford and City Square Shopping Centre, aims to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for children with sensory needs and their families.
The opening ceremony was marked by a ribbon-cutting event led by the Waterford Metropolitan Mayor, Councillor Adam Wyse, highlighting the importance of inclusive community spaces within the city.
The Parent and Child Sensory Hub has been designed to offer a calm, accessible space where children can engage with sensory-friendly resources in a safe and welcoming setting.
Representatives from Autism Friendly Waterford and City Square Shopping Centre expressed their appreciation for the collaborative effort that brought the project to fruition, noting its significance for families across Waterford and the surrounding region.
Autism Friendly Waterford were chosen as a charity for the Mayor's Ball last year, and the money received from the proceeds of the ball went towards this sensory space.
It was announced earlier this month that the mayor's ball would not be taking place this year. The ball raised approximately €1.4 million for charity since the turn of the century.
The new hub will now be open to the public during City Square Shopping Centre opening hours.
