A photo taken by Waterford News & Star photographer Joe Evans at Sinn Féin's 2016 convention in Waterford, showed a young faced Conor D. McGuinness watching on from the crowd as David Cullinane accepted a Dáil bid at the Granville Hotel.

Mr McGuinness was not yet a councillor when the photo was taken and can be seen peering through the packed gathering, a figure in the crowd, overlooked by a poster of David Cullinane, who was acting senator at the time, already well established in Waterford's political landscape.

Following election last weekend, eight years on from the capture of this photo, McGuinness himself will now serve in the Dáil alongside Mr Cullinane.
