While the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman on board a passenger ferry into Rosslare Harbour in County Wexford is ongoing the post-mortem on the woman's remains is taking place in University Hospital Waterford.
In a statement to Waterford News & Star, a spokesperson for the Gardaí said investigations are ongoing into the woman's death, in unexplained circumstances, on board the ferry on February 25.
"Gardaí in Wexford continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman on board a passenger ferry en-route to Rosslare, Co Wexford, on the evening of Tuesday, February 25," said the Garda spokesperson.
"A post mortem examination is currently being carried out at Waterford University Hospital, the results of which will determine the nature and course of our investigation," said the spokesperson.
A man was arrested in connection with the investigation and he remains detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to provide support and information to the deceased’s family.
The Gardaí are not investigating any separate alleged public order incidents on board the ferry and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death are ongoing.
