Possibility of express train from Waterford to Dublin is discussed
Plunkett Station, Waterford
A direct train from Plunkett Station in Waterford city to Heuston Station in Dublin was discussed between local councillors and Waterford Council Executives last week.
There is currently no express train linking the two cities.
Cllr Eamon Quinlan said this is seriously impacting the quality of life for people commuting from Waterford to Dublin for work.
“If you are going to work in Dublin from Waterford you have to take the 5.50am train in order to get there on time for work” Cllr Quinlan said.
“People who are doing it are finding it incredibly pressing on their time and quality of life.”
Cllr Quinlan added, “Waterford should be a destination where people can work in Dublin so I’d like to see an express train that will go straight to Dublin with no stops.”
Waterford City and County Council Director of Services, Gabriel Hynes, said he 100% agrees with Cllr Quinlan’s comments.
“We need a high frequency service to and from Waterford” Mr. Hynes said.
“We will take that away and do our best to ensure we get a satisfactory service.”
Meanwhile, another councillor described the lack of catering services on trains in and out of Waterford as "totally bizarre". Read more on the story HERE.
