Uisce Éireann have officially confirmed their intentions to connect Woodlands Estate, Portlaw, with the public water supply, with a detailed design and delivery programme to be finalised by year end.
Following the completion of an initial assessment of the estate, Uisce Éireann have said a “more definitive” project timeline will be provided by the end of the year, alongside the design and delivery programme.
The works will be delivered by Uisce Éireann and funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
This news comes after Minister Mary Butler, TD, received confirmation from Uisce Éireann on the issue this week, following continuous engagement with Minister James Browne, TD, on the matter in recent weeks.
Minister Butler said: “Firstly, I want to thank my colleague Minister James Browne for his ongoing engagement on this matter. This is a longstanding issue, which has affected the residents of Woodlands Estate, Portlaw, for a number of years.
"I am really encouraged by the positive update Uisce Éireann has provided in respect of connecting Woodlands to the public water supply. I know it will be welcome news for many of the residents who I have engaged with individually in recent weeks and months.
"I also want to commend Councillor John O’Leary who has been working closely with me on this issue. Cllr O’Leary also met with Minister Browne on behalf of residents and conveyed a strong message on their behalf,” she said.
