Guineys on Georges Street, Waterford City

Guineys in Waterford City is to close until further notice.

A notice on the Georges Street store said the closure is due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

In a post on social media, Guineys said the store would close and wished its customers a happy Christmas.

The post said: “Guineys Waterford will be closed until further notice.

“We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers a happy and safe Christmas.

“Thank you all for your continued support.

“We will see you all in the new year.”

INCIDENT

It is understood that the closure may be related to a fire. 

Waterford City Fire Service posted on social media that they attended an incident at a commercial premises on Georges Street over the weekend.

Pictures posted online show the fire service outside Guineys and the gardaí and ambulance service were also in attendance.

In the post, the fire service said: “Crews had a busy few shifts over the weekend before Christmas.

“Green Watch attended a commercial incident in the city centre, which was dealt with as little disruption to shoppers as they could while having the appliances as close as possible to deal with the incident at hand.”
