Plans for 79 apartments in Waterford city face backlash from neighbouring residents

Plans have been submitted to develop 79 apartments at Deerpark in Waterford city.

Plans have been submitted to build 79 apartments at Deerpark, Williamstown, Waterford City.

The apartment units are located within three blocks.

One of these blocks is a four to five storey building with 34 apartment units, consisting of five one-bed apartment units, 28 two-bed apartment units, and one three-bed apartment unit.

The second block is a three to four storey building incorporating 21 apartments. Three of these units are one-bed and 18 are two-bed.

The third block is a four-storey apartment building incorporating four one-bed apartment units and 20 two-bed apartment units.

Noel Frisby Construction Ltd lodged the plans for the development and a decision is expected to be made by August 29.

Meanwhile, some current Deerpark residents have submitted a petition to express their strong objection to the proposed construction.

They state that the original plan was for houses to be built, not apartments. Residents say that the development will infringe on their privacy and block natural light.

Concerns were also raised regarding a lack of parking, schools and suitable roads in the area to facilitate such a project.

The petition says: “We, the undersigned residents of Deerpark, hereby submit this petition to express our strong objection to the proposed construction of several blocks of flats surrounding our small housing estate.

"In light of these substantial concerns, we respectfully urge the Waterford City Council to reject the proposed construction of flats and uphold the original plan of building houses. We believe that maintaining the initial plan is in the best interest of our community and aligns with the principles of fair and responsible urban development."

The petition adds: "We trust that the Council will consider our objections seriously and act in a manner that protects the rights and well-being of the existing residents. We look forward to your prompt attention to this matter and a favorable resolution."
