Permission granted for new visitor attraction at Suir Valley Railway

The Waterford & Suir Valley Railway has been a phenomenal success.

A new visitor attraction at Waterford Suir Valley Railway has been granted permission.

Planning application submitted recently outlined intentions to develop a brand new "visitor attraction and railway heritage experience" at the site.

The development will comprise the display of equipment, rolling stock and other railway associated items and will include an educational section featuring virtual reality presentations.

A small museum and interactive interpretation centre that supports the overall railway experience has been approved.

The attraction will present the story of Irish railways through a series of exhibition zones.

Visitors will learn about the station master, the driver, the signal operator and the engineers who maintained the locomotives. Exhibits will explain how trains were operated in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The approach will combine traditional museum displays with hands on elements.

A central feature of the new attraction will be a virtual reality experience, placing visitors inside a working steam railway environment from the 1800s.
