Open night is great success in Waterford school

Greenschools volunteers at the Presentation Secondary School open night

Our school community was absolutely delighted to welcome 5th and 6th class students and parents from primary schools in Waterford to our fabulous open night.

On the evening of Tuesday, October 7, we opened our doors to showcase our incredible school to prospective students. There was no shortage of things to do and see, and hallways were bouncing with the energy of everyone involved.

The night included tasters of subjects the school has to offer to the primary school students, where they got to complete coding workshops in our computer room, bake pizza in our well-equipped home economics rooms, get a taste of graphics with our brand new computers or complete exciting science experiments in our biology lab.

Other exciting tasters were on offer, and in every room a smile greeted our keen visitors. From prospective students, current students and teachers present, everybody was enthusiastic and joyful.

Parents got to view all aspects of our school while their children were kept busy.

The 6th Year prefects took the lead in showing parents around and demonstrated just how proud we students are to be Presentation girls. The school facilities were seen by all, such as the cosy library, the two impressive computer rooms, the beautiful art room, the classic music room, the hair and beauty salon and the three impressive science labs, which are just a few of the facilities that our school has to offer.

The action didn't end there; in fact, it had only just begun. The main hallway was filled with rows of tables with passionate students ready to talk about the schools' extracurricular activities on offer. In our school everyone can find some activity they like to do. If you like sports, there is a selection of teams such as basketball, athletics, camogie, badminton and so much more. If you would like to improve people's lives inside and outside of school life, we have green schools, amber flag, diversity committees and young SVP.

Of course, the choice doesn't end there; we have choir, European leaders, poetry club, chess club and many others.

School principal, Ms Ronayne, said: “I was delighted to see so many young faces so full of excitement”.

She was filled with pride as she acknowledged the remarkable efforts of both students and teachers in organising such a successful event. If you attended the open night and haven't already handed in your application for a place in our extraordinary school, it needs to be returned to the school office by 1pm on Friday, November 7. We hope to welcome you to the school in the future.

Well done, everyone!
