The claim was made at the January meeting of Piltown Municipal district.

A Piltown councillor has raised a concerning issue of reported lighting issues on the Thomas Francis Meagher Bridge.

Councillor Pat Dunphy (Fine Gael) said at a recent meeting: "Something that actually happened in October 2023, that some of the lighting on the Thomas Francis Meagher bridge at the exit points, that there was no light at all."

Missing exit

He went on: "Some people are actually missing the exit, especially heading in to Waterford and I was wondering if something can be done about it.

"I think TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) have some policy on this, they're after doing this, a lot of areas around the country, a lot of roads taking down lights."

Cllr Dunphy continued: "I'm not sure if it is the best policy of safety, you would miss the exit, you're out there on a dark road."

According to a Council officer, the TII policy is a part of their Climate Action Roadmap.
