New Waterford Men’s Shed in search of place to call home

Members of Dunmore East's new Men's Shed.
A new Men’s Shed has officially launched in Dunmore East and it’s already attracting strong interest. The group, however, are facing a dilemma.
Over 25 local men are getting involved in the shed in its early stages. So while the group is off to a strong start, they are now actively seeking a permanent home in the village to allow the shed to grow and thrive.
Speaking about the project this week, Paul Finnegan, who is one of the founding members, along with John Power, said: “We’re delighted to have this project off the ground. There’s been huge interest, and plenty of men eager to get involved.
"We’ve already had a few great meetings, full of ideas, laughter and good chat.”
Paul added that it is now vital that the group can find a stable home.
“But we know how important it is that the Men’s Shed is easily accessible for men of all ages and backgrounds, so we are actively looking for a central, long-term home in the village.”
The group recently met with Mary Butler TD to discuss possible options for a future base.
“Mary took the time to meet with us and hear our ideas, and we’re grateful for her interest and encouragement.
"We’re hopeful that momentum will continue. We would like to also thank Councillor Davy Daniels for his help, which is appreciated," Paul added.
The group expressed their thanks to the Dunmore East Football Club, who have generously offered a temporary base for meetings and activities while a permanent space is secured.
"The club have been incredibly kind in their offer to use their space,” Paul said.
In the meantime, the Men’s Shed continues to meet every Thursday at 11am in Fisherman’s Hall, and all are welcome to come along.
“Whether you’re looking to meet people, share a skill, or just have a cuppa and a chat this is a great way to get involved in the community,” concluded Paul.
For more information or to get involved, drop into a Thursday session at 11am in the Fisherman’s Hall. All are welcome.
