New cycle corridor planned to link in with Greenway

The plan is to develop cycle and pedestrian access to the South East Greenway

Kilkenny County Council is proposing to develop a 2.1km pedestrian and cycle corridor connecting Slieverue village to the South East Greenway at Kilmurry Lane.

The route will mainly use shared surfaces along local roads, with some off-road sections within the village and some key elements of the project will include the introduction of reduced speed limits, with a proposal for 30kph on shared roads, subject to a separate statutory process.

There will also be speed ramps, signage, road markings, and energy-efficient public lighting installed along the entire route. There will also be an all-stop junction control at the L7477/L7478 junction and local road widening for improved visibility.

The works will also see off-road pathways connecting Kilmurry Lane to the Greenway and Hartley Cross, with signalized pedestrian/cyclist crossings at Hartley’s Cross and St Mary’s Parish Hall along with widening of existing footpaths on the L3411 to create a shared pedestrian/cycle pathway. There will also be further speed reductions on L3411 near Slieverue Linear Park.

The plans are available for inspection until October 11 at Ferrybank Library and online with submissions on the plans accepted until October 25.

Submissions can be made either online, via email, or in writing and all submissions should be clearly marked 'South East Greenway - Southern Connectivity Link - Slieverue to Kilmurry Lane'.
