The motion calls for two new stops on the Route 361

Councillors at the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council have voted to support the inclusion of two additional stops on a West Waterford bus route.

Cllr Pat Nugent put forward the motion, which read: “I wish to propose that as elected members of Waterford City and County Council, we support the inclusion of two additional stops on the Route 361 in An Rinn—at Seanachill Cross and Carigeen Junction on Road L6112—as identified by the Local Link Administrator.

“These locations are vital access points for the local community, and their inclusion would significantly enhance public transport connectivity and accessibility.

"We request that these stops be approved and implemented as a matter of urgency to improve the service’s reach and usability.”

Cllr Nugent said these stops were “vital access points for the local community” and asked that they be implemented as a matter of urgency.

Cllr Tom Cronin seconded the motion.

Cllr Thomas Phelan said he supports the motion as he would any that enhances public transport.

But he also asked that the council write to the National Transport Authority for more funding.

“In some respects, Local Link can be seen as a victim of its own success.

"It kind of came from nowhere in a short amount of time, and I think as people see routes being successful and popular, it's only when they see what's there that they see what they would like to have added to it," said Cllr Phelan.

He also said he thinks it should be noted that every time you add a stop, it increases the journey time for the whole trip.

Cllr John Pratt supported the motion as the chair of Local Link.

He said they are behind any motions for additional services, but thinks it should be noted that the process of getting stops is often slow, and they must work with the NTA.

Cllr Donnchadh Mulcahy said he would like to commend the work of his colleagues on the board of Local Link.

“I am greatly appreciative of what you are doing for West Waterford,” said Cllr Mulcahy.
