The Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien has said he is "considering next steps" in the development of Waterford Airport.

The Minister was responding to a parliamentary question submitted by Waterford TD Conor McGuinness.

Deputy McGuinness asked the Minister when he would make a decision on funding the runway extension and what factors were under consideration.

"I can assure the Deputy that this Government is committed to working with all stakeholders to see the Waterford Airport project to lengthen and widen the runway progress," said Minister O'Brien.

The Minister said his department has concluded its initial assessment of Waterford Airport’s development proposal in line with the requirements under the Transport Appraisal Framework.

The framework sets out value for money, evaluation, planning and management guidelines for all public investment projects.

"I am currently being briefed by officials and considering the next steps in this regard. I am also looking forward to positive engagement with Waterford Airport on this matter," said Minister O'Brien.
