18 Lady Lane will be redeveloped into 'Tír na nÓg', a children's experience centre.

The latest Metro Economic Report revealed the ongoing process on multiple key projects throughout Waterford City.

Under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), eight projects in the city are advancing onto the next stages.

The project on 7 & 8 Thomas Street (The Art House) has found an architect for the project design.

According to Waterford City and County Council: "Following a community engagement process the consultant team, led by Drake Hourigan Architects, are progressing the project design. A Part 8 application is expected to commence in the coming weeks with reports and documents currently being finalised."

For 3 & 4 George's Street, a revised Part 8 planning application for proposed office use is due to begin in May 2025.

Butler Cammoranesi Architects are progressing their detailed design and technical specifications on the Munster Express building. Works are expected to be tendered this summer, with demolition works included in the major contract.

The works on 18 Lady Lane continue with enabling works commencing on site, with asbestos material being removed from the building's main structure and the dormitory building being demolished. The site is being redeveloped into a children's experience space called 'Tír na nÓg'. The concept designs are being developed in coordination between the project and funding partners. A Plan 8 planning application is due to commence in June 2025.

Re-roofing and external rendering works are still ongoing at Bishop's Hall and City Hall. Works are expected to be completed this summer.

Regarding the refurbishment of the derrick crane on the quay, the report stated that "final sampling and testing of the paints and metals to further inform the structural assessment report are scheduled in May 2025".

"The repair/refurbishment recommendations/report is expected in mid-June and a decision will then be made on the extent of works to be undertaken," the report said.

Tender documents are currently being prepared for the proposed housing, public realm and commercial development at 124-130 Parade Quay.

Meanwhile, refurbishment works at 123A Parade Quay are ongoing. The site is due to open in Q3 2025 and will be linked to the adjacent Museum of Time building.
