Meet the first baby born in Waterford in 2026.

Baby Felipe was born at 5am on New Year's Day.

His mother, Mariana, told the Waterford News and Star that she and her partner, Bruno, had been trying for this baby for a while, and the family is doing well.

“We feel very grateful,” said Mariana.

The family, originally from Brazil, has been living in Gracedieu, Waterford, for nine years, and baby Felipe has an older brother, Daniel.

Felipe was due to be born on Christmas Eve, but he held out for a little longer.

“He wanted to wait and be in the newspaper, maybe,” said Marianna.

Mariana said she was delighted when she was told Felipe was the first baby born in Waterford this year.

“It was exciting when we heard. He was born at 5am, so we thought someone else would have come before, but the nurses said no, he was the first, said Mariana.

The Waterford News and Star would like to wish Mariana, baby Felipe, Daniel and Bruno all the best in 2026 and a happy New Year.
