Man was found with nearly €10,000 of drugs in Waterford

Gardaí found over €6,000 worth of cannabis.

A 31-year-old man was found to be in possession of nearly €10,000 worth of various drugs at an address in Waterford.

Mark Charlotte, with a former address of 22, Poleberry, Waterford, pleaded guilty to possessing drugs with intent to sell contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Garda Sean Dunne gave testimony at Waterford Circuit Court about the background of the case.

On December 14, 2023, Gardaí carried out a warrant on his address, where he was subletting a bedroom with his partner.

Gardaí discovered 14 individual wraps of diamorphine, three baggies of cocaine, and €1,240 in cash. A pair of weighing scales was also recovered.

In total, they recovered €1,100 worth of cocaine, €2,464 worth of diamorphine and €6,318 worth of cannabis.

The total value of drugs seized came to a total of €9,882.

Sentence

Defence counsel Gareth Hayden BL said that Charlotte sold substances to "feed his cannabis addiction".

Judge Eugene O’Kelly suspended a prison term of three years in recognition of the defendant’s early plea, lack of relevant convictions for drug-dealing and lack of interaction with the law over the intervening years since the incident.

“Mr. Hayden, my policy with drug dealers is very clear. He’s got his one chance.”
