Man arrested with suspected imitation firearm after pointing weapon at crowd in Waterford City
A Garda spokesperson has confirmed to this newspaper that the investigations are ongoing.
Waterford Gardaí responded to an alleged public order incident yesterday afternoon, Friday, September 11 at Broad Street, just off John Robert's Square in Waterford city.
The incident, which occurred around 4:40pm according to a Garda spokesperson, involved a man aged in his 40s.
It is understood an altercation took place between the man and a group of schoolchildren in the area.
Videos posted online of the alleged incident yesterday evening show the man pointing what appears to be a firearm in the direction of a large crowd of school children and shoppers.
It is understood the man was stopped by passers-by after the incident before Gardaí arrived at the scene.
Gardaí subsequently arrested the man and recovered a suspected imitation firearm.
The man, who is yet to be named, is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Waterford area.
