Man (56) exposed himself to female Garda at Garda station
The man was highly intoxicated and has no recollection of the incident in the Garda Station.
A 56-year-old Waterford man has pleaded guilty to an incident whereby he was arrested for possessing an imitation firearm at Tesco, Ballybeg. Whilst being held at Waterford Garda Station after being arrested for the offence, the man exposed his genitals to a female Garda officer.
On June 26, 2025, at Tesco Ballybeg, a witness observed a dispute taking place between two parties. Gardaí subsequently received reports of a male removing a pistol-like object from his bag. Gardaí later confirmed that the firearm was an imitation pistol.
The offender was arrested and was brought to Waterford Garda Station. Whilst at the station, the man exposed his genitals to a garda member and directed a vulgar sexual comment at her.
He was charged with possession of a realistic imitation firearm in a public place and with exposing his genitals in a way intending to cause fear, distress or alarm to another person.
The man’s defence solicitor, Mr Kenneth Cunningham, said that his client was highly intoxicated during the arrest and has no recollection of the incident of exposure in the Garda Station.
He has 18 previous convictions.
The man was given 120 hours of community service in lieu of a six-month prison sentence.
He cannot be named due to in-camera reporting restrictions.
