Major tragedy in Dungarvan’s twinned town in USA
Erie, Pennsylvania
In the city of Erie, Pennsylvania, a devastating tragedy occurred last week when eight people were shot and killed.
All who were killed were relatives of the 45-year-old gunman, who committed the atrocity in a residential property before taking his own life.
The shooting has brought the city to a standstill, while authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances behind the incident.
Erie has been twinned with Dungarvan since 2007, a partnership that has involved a large number of student exchanges and cultural visits over the years.
Labour councillor, Thomas Phelan, has expressed condolences to the Mayor of Erie, Daria S. Devlin, on behalf of the Dungarvan/Lismore Electoral District.
Cllr Phelan described the recent shooting as an “unprecedented incident” and a “major tragedy” for Dungarvan’s twinned city.
