Major delays in progressing Waterford drugs case

Judge Caitriona Murray was informed during the hearing by gardaí that it is unlikely the matter will be seeing progress.

It has been over 200 days since a drug matter first arrived to the court in Waterford, and a Judge has asked that immediate progress now be made.

Michael Alexander, of Rathfadden Park, Waterford, is a 61-year-old who is facing multiple charges of possessing cannabis, and possessing cannabis for the purpose of sale and supply to others.

The court was informed last week by the man’s defence solicitor that a large quantity of drugs is involved in the case.

Judge Caitriona Murray was informed during the hearing by gardaí that it is unlikely the matter will be seeing progress.

Judge Murray issued a peremptory order against the State.

If directions are not available by November 24, the matter may be struck out.
