The late Michael Holland who passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Mourners gathered in Dungarvan to attend the funeral of Michael Holland, who passed away unexpectedly and peacefully.

Mr Holland, of Pinecourt, Colligan Wood, Dungarvan, and formerly of Timoleague, Co. Cork, was in the presence of his beloved wife, Anne, in Mallorca on Tuesday, June 11, when he died.

Held in high regard by his former colleagues, Mr Holland was known locally as the driving force behind the Waterford Crystal plant in Dungarvan. However, leading the way was something Mr Holland was no stranger to, as from a young age he was the first football player from the parish of Timoleague to wear a Cork jersey for the minor football team in 1954. According to a local family, who expressed their condolences, Mr Holland "played many an outstanding game with Timoleague, Clon and Carbery... His deeds will not be forgotten."

Mr Holland's death notice reads that he was a "beloved and devoted husband to Anne for almost 60 years who feels his loss hugely."

He's "much loved as a wonderful father to Natalie, Aisling, Naomi and Daniel and as a fabulous and mischievous grandfather to Aaron, Stefan, Lucas, Katie, Cillian, Cliodhna, James, Siofra, Michael, Caroline and Rachel.

"He will be very sadly missed and lovingly remembered by these and by his daughter-in-law Kate and sons-in-law Albert, John and Michael, all of whom he warmly welcomed as a great addition to our family. Also mourned by his sisters Kathleen and Greta and his brother Tadgh. Also by his circle of friends from Dungarvan and UCC who remember him fondly."

Mr Holland is predeceased by his sister, Eileen Fleming.

His funeral mass took place in St Mary's Church, Dungarvan, on Thursday, June 20, where his cortege paused on route to the church at Dungarvan Crystal.
